Cataract: What is Cataract? – In the Normal Eye, the lens is clear & transparent, -which focuses light on the retina -To produce sharp image & clear picture. Symptoms of Cataract? -Cataract is the clouding of this lens in the eye. -This results in blurring of vision. -Colors appears dull or faded -Poor night vision The only treatment currently available is Surgery Phacoemulsification: -Here the cataract is removed through a 2.8 mm incision -This procedure doesnt require any sutures. – And new foldable lens is implanted. -Healing and Visual Recovery is faster -Chances of wound infection are minimized -Surgery restores vision in a weeks time

Cataract surgery is a microscopic surgery usually performed under local anaesthesia. The cloudy lens is removed leaving its capsule behind, within which a permanent intraocular lens is implanted. The refractive power of the implanted lens is calculated so that there is a minimal need for post-operative spectacle prescription. However, glasses will be required for near work. After cataract surgery, one may return almost immediately to all but the most strenuous activities. Medication must be administered as per the instructions of the surgeon. Your surgeon will tell you when you may return to work. Conventional cataract surgery, which involves removal of the lens in one piece, results in an incision size of 10-12 mm and closure of this large incision with multiple stitches. This has been replaced with the modern technique of cataract removal [phacoemulsification].

www.lasereyesurgery.ie Our video shows a patient that has near sighted vision problems with his eyes. There are two types of proceesures. 1. LASIK – This is the most popular refractive laser eye surgery dublin procedure which means “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis.” The main benifit of LASIK over other correction procedures is the lack of pain afterwards and the fast recovery time. Many clients go back to work on the same day of reatment. The instrument used during the operation is called a microkeratome which creates a very thin flap that is circular in shape in the cornea area of the eye.
