Cataract..{A Complimentary from Rushabh Eye Hospital,India}

Cataract: What is Cataract? – In the Normal Eye, the lens is clear & transparent, -which focuses light on the retina -To produce sharp image & clear picture. Symptoms of Cataract? -Cataract is the clouding of this lens in the eye. -This results in blurring of vision. -Colors appears dull or faded -Poor night vision The only treatment currently available is Surgery Phacoemulsification: -Here the cataract is removed through a 2.8 mm incision -This procedure doesnt require any sutures. – And new foldable lens is implanted. -Healing and Visual Recovery is faster -Chances of wound infection are minimized -Surgery restores vision in a weeks time

Cataract surgery is a microscopic surgery usually performed under local anaesthesia. The cloudy lens is removed leaving its capsule behind, within which a permanent intraocular lens is implanted. The refractive power of the implanted lens is calculated so that there is a minimal need for post-operative spectacle prescription. However, glasses will be required for near work. After cataract surgery, one may return almost immediately to all but the most strenuous activities. Medication must be administered as per the instructions of the surgeon. Your surgeon will tell you when you may return to work. Conventional cataract surgery, which involves removal of the lens in one piece, results in an incision size of 10-12 mm and closure of this large incision with multiple stitches. This has been replaced with the modern technique of cataract removal [phacoemulsification].

www.ladilaservision.com My name is Chandan Padiyar I am working in a private company as manager and finance account and my operation was done on 13th Oct 2009.

My Rx is -12 and -10.75 (nearsightedness/ severe myopia) Yes, I have a stigmatism in both eyes. I’m 23 & have called around to all the Doctors but am hesitant to be screened because I’m scared I’ll be told I’m just not a candidate.

Lasik seems to run about 4000$ in my area.
IOL/ICL implants run about 9000-10000$ and also run the risk of needing additional lasik at a reduced cost of 700-1000$ an eye for adjustments.
I know what myopia is, I know how bad my Rx is, I know what each surgery entails… but I can’t find real life information from people that have been there.

I would prefer lasik but I think my Rx is too severe and that I wont have enough cornea to be able to remove as much as I need.

**anyone w/ severe myopia that has had either of these corrective procedures have any advice or stories to share?**

Refractive Errors: How do we see the world? – In the Normal Eye, the lens is clear & transparent, -which focuses light on the retina -To produce sharp image & clear picture. Common Refractive Errors: Myopia- -Here the image is formed in front of retina as the eyeball is elongated -Myopes can see near objects clearly but not distant objects Hyperopia- -Here the image falls behind the retina as the eyeball is shorter than normal -near objects become difficult to see compared to distance Astigmatism- -here the cornea is oblong instead of Spherical -it is result of uneven curvatures of the cornea -resulting in blurring of image at any distance Treatment options available: -one can choose Spectacles -or can use contact lenses -most effective treatment choose by patients across the world is LASIK laser Vision Correction Lasik- Laser Vision Correction: -This is a procedure that improves vision by changing shape of the cornea with a laser – The actual Laser time is approximately 1 minute – There is almost no pain involved with lasik. -Better Vision for all occasions – Independence: freedom from glasses and contacts -Life simplification: No Glasses No Contacts
